It's truly so easy to make the best honey buffalo sauce for your chicken wings! This recipe is a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy, and so much better than bottled wing sauce.
I love spicy flavor, but what I love even more is when that heat has a sweet finish. It's that perfect combination that makes me excited for another bite.
You get that balance with this honey buffalo sauce. It's my son's favorite wing sauce, and he always requests it when we are planning game day dinners or having an appetizer night.
It's great because it only takes a few minutes to prepare and works with any chicken wings, whether you cook them in the oven or the air fryer.
It also makes an excellent marinade for chicken or fish and can be used in dip recipes or any time you want to add a little sweet and spicy kick to a dish. Scroll further down the post for more ideas!
Ingredient Information

Frank's RedHot Sauce: There's nothing quite like Frank's to give you the classic buffalo flavor. Ensure you get the original RedHot sauce, not wing sauce since you are adding our own sweetener and seasonings.
Honey: A touch of honey beautifully balances the spice. Feel free to tweak honey levels to suit your preferred sweet-to-spicy ratio.
Butter: Butter adds richness and depth to the sauce. I recommend pure butter, though margarine works too.
Garlic Powder: Garlic powder adds a punch of savory flavor. If you want a more robust garlic flavor, you can replace the garlic powder with one minced clove of fresh garlic.
Worcestershire Sauce: This rounds out the flavors. If you don't have any on hand, you can skip it or add a little soy sauce instead.
Pro Tip: Adjust the flavors to your liking by adding more honey or some brown sugar to sweeten it, add ¼ teaspoon of cayenne to make it spicier, or try ½ teaspoon paprika for added smokiness.
How to Make Honey Buffalo Sauce
Making this sweet and spicy honey buffalo sauce could not be simpler:
- Add the Frank's RedHot Sauce, honey, butter, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce to a small saucepan.
- Whisk frequently over medium heat until the butter has melted and the ingredients are well blended.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce to low heat and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes until it becomes slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before tossing with your chicken wings or storing for later use.
Pro Tip: If the sauce seems too thin, continue cooking it uncovered, and it will continue to reduce. It will also thicken slightly as it cools
Ways to Use Buffalo Sauce
Wings: This sauce was made for chicken wings! Toss fried, baked, or air-fried wings in it for the best honey buffalo wings! It works great with cauliflower wings or tofu bites too!
Chicken: Use it as a marinade or sauce for chicken tenders, nuggets, sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
Burgers: Spread onto your hamburger buns and add some blue cheese crumbles for buffalo burgers or chicken sandwiches.
Bowls: Drizzle homemade buffalo sauce over grain bowls, Buddha bowls, and salad bowls.
Make a Dip: Mix ½ cup of sauce with 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, ½ cup of sour cream, and ½ cup of shredded cheese for a quick and easy Buffalo Dip.
Pizza: Drizzle spicy honey sauce over pizza or use it as the base for a buffalo chicken pizza.
Fries and Tots: Toss french fries, tater tots, or sweet potato fries with this sauce, then dip them in blue cheese dressing.
Veggies: Roast veggies like carrots, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, or cauliflower and drizzle hot wing sauce over the top.
Storage Tips
Refrigeration: Leftover sauce will keep fresh in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. The flavors may deepen over time.
Freezer For longer-term storage, freeze the extra sauce in freezer bags or freezer-safe containers for 3-4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before using.
Separation: If the sauce separates with butter solids forming at the top, simply re-melt it over low heat while stirring.
